Terms of Use
Effective date: April 13, 2026
1. Service Description
WriteProof is a writing process verification tool designed for educators. Teachers create assignment links that students use to write in a monitored editor. The editor records keystroke timing, tab switches, and paste attempts to produce a playback of the writing process along with a confidence score. WriteProof is operated at writeproof.app.
2. User Accounts
Teachers create accounts to manage assignments and review student submissions. Students access assignments via shared links and do not need to create an account. Students are asked only to enter their name before writing. By creating an account, you agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials secure.
3. Data Collection
When a student uses the WriteProof editor, we collect keystroke timing data, tab switch events, paste attempt logs, and the written content itself. This data is collected solely for the purpose of writing process verification — enabling playback and confidence scoring. We do not use this data for any other purpose. For full details, please see our Privacy Policy.
4. Student Data and Compliance
WriteProof does not collect student personally identifiable information (PII) beyond the name a student voluntarily enters when starting an assignment. We do not require student email addresses, dates of birth, or any other personal details. Teachers and their institutions are responsible for ensuring their use of WriteProof complies with applicable laws and institutional policies, including FERPA and COPPA. If you are a teacher using WriteProof with students under 13, you represent that you have obtained any necessary parental or institutional consent.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use WriteProof only for its intended purpose of writing process verification in educational settings. You may not: (a) use the service for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the service; (c) interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service; (d) attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service; or (e) use the service to harass, surveil, or discriminate against students or any other individuals.
6. Intellectual Property
Student writing submitted through WriteProof remains the intellectual property of the student. WriteProof claims no ownership over any content created by students using the service. The WriteProof service, including its design, code, and branding, is the intellectual property of WriteProof and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
WriteProof offers a free tier (1 assignment per month) and a Pro plan ($9/month for unlimited assignments). Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Pro subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly basis. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account dashboard; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial months. WriteProof reserves the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
WriteProof is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. Confidence scores are intended as an aid to educator judgment and should not be used as the sole basis for academic decisions.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, WriteProof and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from: (a) your use of or inability to use the service; (b) any unauthorized access to or use of our servers and/or any personal information stored therein; or (c) any errors or omissions in the service. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
10. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Use at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice on the service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of WriteProof after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to WriteProof at any time if you violate these terms or for any other reason at our discretion, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. Sections relating to intellectual property, limitation of liability, and disclaimers survive termination.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or the service will be resolved in a court of competent jurisdiction.
